Flooring

If you’re thinking about remodeling your floor, it’s important to shop around and compare floor prices before coming to a final decision.  When it comes to the cost, there are several things you need to keep in mind.   First, prices for materials may vary depending on their quality.  The same applies to installation costs, as some materials take longer to design than others.  Below, we have some average prices for different flooring materials.  However, make sure you speak with suppliers and installers in your area so that you can get a more concrete idea of what the final cost of your floor will be.  Keep in mind, additionally, that you’re making a major investment in your home that you will see every time you look down, so don’t let money be your only factor in purchasing:

Hardwood Floors – These cost $5 to $15 per square foot for material depending on the quality of your boards, as well as your width.  Installation can cost between $2 to $8 per square foot, depending on whether your boards have been pre-treated or if they need to be finished on site.

Laminate Floors – These are very cost-effective, as they run between $1 to $6 a square foot for materials. It's also an easy floor to install, which leads to a low costs of $1 to $5 per square foot..

Linoleum Floors – They cost $2 to $3 per square foot for materials, and another $5 to $7 for installation.  There are wide varieties of colors and design schemes available here.

Vinyl Sheets – They run $1 to $5 per square foot for materials and a very affordable $1 to $2 for the installation.

Vinyl Tiles – This is the cheapest flooring option available.  The materials will cost between $1 and $4 for materials and $1 to $2 per square foot for installation.

Stone tiles – This is a great-looking floor option, but it’s also the most expensive.  IT runs $7 to $20 per square foot for the materials and $6 to $8 dollars per square foot for the installation.  Many contractors charge more for installing this material because carrying them around is more labor-intensive than most of the other options.

Ceramic tiles – These run in the neighborhood of $5 to $15 per square foot for materials and $6 to $8 per square foot for installation.

Whichever option you choose, remember the saying: you get what you pay for.  Flooring materials vary in quality, durability, and appearance, and the less money you spend now, the more likely you’ll be to get a product that won’t work for you.  By contrast, the more you pay initially, the less often you’ll need to do costly repairs in the future.
