Many modern advances in Vinyl Siding have  made painting obsolete. Although Wood  Siding is still the most common type found  on homes, Vinyl Siding has been becoming  more popular in recent years.

Vinyl Siding vs Wood Siding
Despite the popularity of Wood Siding,  Shakes and Shingles, there are several  flaws. Wood siding is more vulnerable to  insects, moisture, and the elements. Wood  gets damaged easily by humidity and rain.  This causes the wood to bubble which can  ruin even the best paint job in just a few years. Most Vinyl Siding Jobs only have to be done once. Vinyl Siding can go a good a 40 years without showing any ill effects.

The PVC used for these panels won’t rust, conduct electricity or dent. This makes this much more energy efficient then Wood and Aluminum Siding.

Cost

Considering the average paint job last 5-6 years, while on average vinyl siding lasts between 40-50 years, Painting will cost you much more in the long run. Vinyl Siding is manmade and this allows the cost to be much lower then Cedar Siding. The installation is also much quicker and will normally cost significantly less.

Overall painting no longer makes sense. If you are planning on staying in your home for over five years you will lose money by painting. Vinyl Siding is maintenance free and also provides great insulation for your home.
