Bedroom Remodeling

Redesigning Your Bedroom – Without Losing Sleep

Recent scientific research has indicated that the average adult requires eight hours of sleep every day.  That equals one-third of your life!  Believe it or not, an attractive bedroom design can play a huge role in the quality of your sleep.  The process of remodeling your bedroom can be expensive and time-consuming, but we have some tips that can make the process easier, and even fun:

Tip #1 – Keep your eyes and ears open for inspiration

You never know where you can obtain design ideas.  Start by browsing through design and home improvement magazines.  Look on websites, and you can even obtain ideas when you visit friends and relatives.  Ask to take a quick peek at their bedroom.  When you go on vacation, look at the hotel rooms.  In order to design a hotel bedroom, a contractor must be a true master at his craft, and even if your budget can’t quite match what they do, you’re guaranteed to walk away with at least one or two ideas that will help you down the road.

Tip #2 – Sweat the details

If you see a single bed or chair that you really like, consider how you can incorporate it into the design.  Some great bedroom designs started off with a simple piece of furniture.

Tip #3 - Note Your Turn-Offs Early in the Process

Knowing what you don’t like is just as important as what you do.  And you won’t know what you don’t like until you see it.  It’s better that you note a dresser you don’t like while you’re doing your research as opposed to when it’s already in your bedroom and you’ve spent your investment on it.  You’ll benefit from it later.

Tip #4 - Think Small

Most homeowners want to create a space that feels warm, intimate, and cozy.  In achieving this look, you’ll want soft colors, carpet instead of tile, and free-flowing window treatments instead of your standard drapes.

Tip #5 – Consider the Feng Shui

Feng shui experts often speak of removing clutter in the living space, and it applies to the bedroom especially.  Get rid of the TV, the computer desk, and the exercise equipment.  You need space if you’re going to feel comfortable.

Tip #6 – It’s okay to think “luxury”

Many homeowners look to design a master bedroom suite, complete with amenities like a Jacuzzi or adjoining master bedroom.  If it’s in your budget, go for it!  When it comes to bedroom remodeling, luxury is the rule, not the exception.

Tip #7 – Consider Your Budget

On the other side of the coin, if you can’t, don’t!  Many homeowners get carried away and splurge on things they don’t need (and can’t afford) when they redesign their bedrooms.  Design a sensible budget first, and then work from there.  You’ll sleep a lot easier if you do (which is the ultimate goal of bedroom remodeling).
